This Week’s Story: Who Chose Who

My eyes notice them, but my mind does not. It’s a subtle peppering of dots, blending into the natural mosaic of grassland and sage on a distant ridge. I’d see it, register it, but the conscious level of my brain would dismiss it as rocks or a sporadically placed stand of antelope bitterbrush…..

Ranch News

It’s today’s range rider crew from Cow Camp in Big Hat Creek, Idaho, in the heart of Idaho’s backcountry! Chris, Clyde (border pup), Glenn, Ella, Max and Emily wish all of you and yours the very best 4th of July! Photo by Glenn.

May Mountain is covered with white stuff again, freshly delivered for Fourth of July week! I can’t share the pictures yet, but this is a post wedding shot of the arbor Melanie, our oldest daughter, and Jed Clements were married under last weekend! Photo by Glenn.

The low pastures are ready to cut for hay! That doesn’t happen very often with new snow up high… Photo by Glenn.

It’s the entire Alderspring herd… digitally. Here they’re staged to finally put the sagebrush sea behind them and enter the forested ecosystem! Photo by Glenn.

Grabbed this shot of the Alderspring range rider string at Big Hat Cow Camp. Snowy Lemhi Range beyond! Photo by Glenn.

The grass along Big Hat Creek is less deep and green. But, because we’re trying to protect it all for a beautiful habitat buffer the cows can’t access it because of the invisible fence. Cows are grazing happily in the far left of the photo outside of the creek bottoms! Photo by Glenn.

That’s Clyde in the foreground watching a cow with her baby that we reunited out in the distant sage above the Skull Flats enclave of late calving cows. The biggest nursery we’ve had all year! Photo by Glenn.

That’s range rider Max searching the brush for a stray calf today. We found him! Photo by Glenn.

It’s kind of a graphic shot, but I really wanted to show it to you. Just two weeks ago this healing spot was a baseball-sized hole in this girl’s face from an erupted abscess. It looked really bad. It was almost an inch and a half deep! My vet did a very simple cleanup with no drugs at all and not even any topical treatment….he simply cleaned away all dead flesh and said “she’ll be good.” And we just put her out on clean grass, and that diversity, beautiful nutrition, clean water and mountain air completely healed her. I think it’s going to completely heal without even a scar… it’s starting to hair up already! Photo by Glenn.

So glad the cow healed. God is the healer along with the veterinarian. Praise Him!
Loved the picture of Clyde standing watch!! ❤️ I don’t comment much, but I so enjoy the stories and pictures you share. Some of your stories bring tears to my eyes because of their beauty and compassion you have for your beeves.
You are a great story teller Glenn!

Great July 4th picture! The light and shadow––perfect. Highlights the wild yet constructively tamed individualism of true Americana. Results in a bridge between the angelic and human comprised of love and freedom.

    Happy Fourth of July!

Thanks for all the wonderfully amazing photos!! You put a “smile” on my face and “awe” in my heart.

I will probably have to wait until August to place my order.
    Best regards until then,
    Sincerely,
    Tonia Pyle
