It’s been a mostly rainy week on both the ranch and the range. This is the view from the bunkhouse on the left down towards the main house in the distance (far right). Photo credit Justice Mitchell.

The cattle and horses don’t mind the rain and us humans have learned how to tolerate the wet spring conditions. Hot beverage in hand and extra insulative layers and a waterproof duster tied to the back of her saddle in easy reach and she’s ready for a day of rainy riding! Photo credit Melanie Elzinga.

One of the first flowers to bloom in the spring in our mountains is phlox. It appears shortly after the snow melts, and its small blossoms of white, pink, and lavender dot the ground under our horse’s feet. Photo credit Melanie Elzinga.

With the cattle bedded down to chew their cud in the afternoon, Melanie and Jed took a break nearby. Their horses got a well earned saddle and grazing break as well. Photo credit Melanie Elzinga.
