The Brumbies are back. These wild horses of the open range first stole into camp back in Bear Basin two weeks ago and tried to make off with our own cavvy of horseflesh…..

It’s Glenn’s spike tent, glowing under a resplendent canopy of stars. He camped out alone with the cows on the remote ranges this week. Good news: no wolves. Just coyotes. Photo by Glenn.

That’s a 4-inch long Leatherman pocket tool in the bottom of that pic at the base of that grass. This field’s got the highest organic matter on Alderspring with a total of 17%. Many don’t think organic matter is a game changer, but this field is 3 to 4 times taller and thicker than any other field on Alderpring despite them being still relatively high organic matters of seven and eight! Photo by Glenn.

When those range cows come in for water they all seem to come at once! There must be some unseen communication going on, because I’ve never been able to figure it out. Maybe it’s just the power of bovine suggestion! Photo by Glenn.

It’s the mama cows on their 300 acre calving pen last night. It’s in the middle of nowhere, and that means they’re is always a human on the watch. I’m up here stringing hotwire; my camp is marked by the tiny white dot at the foot of the hills on the right. It’s my tent. Photo by Glenn.

High valley camp before the wind flattened it 2 days ago. Photo by Glenn.

Maddy and Annie and Baby G settling the yearling herd into their new rangeland digs! Photo by Glenn.

After the 8 miles to the range, Baby G and Goose ended up thirstier than the beeves! Photo by Glenn.

So this might be pushing the envelope here, but let’s give it a try. This is a cow pie detail shot of a beetle heading into her tunnel. When we pulled the pat apart, I’m estimating that there were over 200 head in there! A high rise of beetles! Exciting stuff as dung beetles signify that a piece of ground is rocking on all fronts soil. Photo by Glenn.

Glenn. You are a balm for the soul in this world. You family and crew – the courage, knowledge, and commitment to your mission is so remarkable. Thank you beyond any words. We are truly blessed
Thank you, Marian!
The day has come when I no longer cook. I had a bad fall which put me into assisted living with no stove but that is life when you reach your nineties. I and my family had many Alderspring meals and this is simply a big thank you for all those meals!
I want to thank you also for your farming methods. You have made your ranch alive!
Thank you for saying that, Mary! We are so happy that you have been blessed by our beef!
These are beautiful pictures. I hope you will make nature cards of all of them.
