This Week’s Story: The Door Opened, I Ran
Hello, my name is Wesley Littleton. My wife Maddy and I are transitioning into ownership of the Alderspring beef distribution. I know that sentence alone can sound a bit intimidating—especially for those of you who have been part of this community for 20+ years. Because of that, I believe it’s incredibly important that our relationship moving forward is built on transparency, honesty, and connection…..

This sunset was an absolute stunner. I had stepped outside to take some photos about ten minutes before this, and then noticed that the colors had only gotten deeper and more vivid. -Melanie

Another angle of that particularly beautiful sunset. It was 360 degrees that night, painterly colors adorning the whole sky over the valley. -Melanie

The stunning hue of a high mountain alpenglow will never be something we take for granted. Another thing we don’t take for granted: a haystack that should get us through to green grass! -Melanie

Jed and I had to take a trip down to Idaho Falls to run some errands and pick up a leaf spring for the feed trailer. On our way across the Snake River Plains, we encountered a wall. Of dust, that is. Topsoil blowing off newly plowed fields, carried aloft by gale force spring winds. It’s kind of crazy to see farmers’ livelihood, the very soil beneath their feet, literal dust in the wind. It was a good reminder that there’s a certain lack of resilience in the mono crop agriculture common in this part of the state. -Melanie

Although the days are sometimes still cold and windy and winter remains firmly entrenched in the high country, spring is well on its way and there’s signs of its approach every day. It’s been a very mild winter, but regardless we still yearn a little bit for the long warm days of summer, and these blooms are a reminder that it’ll be here before we know it. -Melanie

Breaks my heart to see our precious soil blow away. Thanks for the reminder.
Melanie, thank you for the beautiful pictures. I think people enjoy your pictures as much as they do the stories, and as much as the meat they eat. They certainly bring the newsletter to life.
Thank you for your work, and the work of the whole team at Alderspring’s.
